moo duk kwan
Martial art skills are only as good as the person practicing them. With this in mind, the Moo Duk Kwan was founded on November 9th 1945 with the purpose of preserving the worthwhile philosophies and traditions of Soo Bahk Do.
Moo Duk Kwan: School of Martial Virtue or “Style to teach Moo (military) and Duk (virtue / ethics / discipline) through training in the martial arts”.
The Moo Duk Kwan was founded by Kwan Jang Nim (grandmaster) Hwang Kee when he opened his first dojang (school) in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Moo Duk Kwan philosophy is based on the teachings of Confucius and the ideals of Moo Do (martial virtue). The emphasis is on the development of the self, and an integration of mind and body.
The Moo Duk Kwan system teaches its members not only the techniques of the martial art Soo Bahk Do, but also ethical and Moo Do discipline; an aspect maintained as a precious tradition.
Learning fighting techniques without strong, guiding philosophy creates dangerous people that become a burden on society. Learning the skills of Soo Bahk Do with the Moo Duk Kwan philosophy helps students emphasise “virtue in action” by demonstrating courage, confidence, humility, discipline and respect. Moo Duk Kwan is philosophy in action; you won’t just heard us talking about it, you see it!
